"To be an all-star, just remember the 5 Ds of dodgeball— dodge, duck, dip, dive, and… dodge." — Patches O'Houlihan

What a week on Mustang Mountain! Even though they’re two completely different events, the elementary and secondary Track Attack days have grown to become great traditions for CAC students.

For elementary students, it’s a day to ride a bus (which is a big deal) to the big campus (which is an even bigger deal) to hang out with high school students (which is an even bigger deal) and play games, have their faces painted, eat snacks, and go crazy.

For high school students, it’s a day to take a break from an afternoon of classes (which is a big deal) to hang out with friends (which is an even bigger deal) and play dodgeball (which is an even bigger deal) for bragging rights and the opportunity to pelt members of the faculty team.

Two completely different days but great traditions.

I love these kind of days because it brings our students and teachers together in a different way than the regular day. We get to watch our students be kids, and they get to watch us be kids, too. Memories are made and relationships are strengthened. And while some may see it as a loss of educational time, I don’t agree. On these days, our students learn to interact with each other, they learn to deal with conflict, they learn about honesty (dodgeball may trump golf in the way people try to cheat), and they learn to support each other. I’d say those are good lessons to learn any day.

I’m still not sure how spending an afternoon playing a dodgeball tournament called Track Attack is a thing on Mustang Mountain, but I’m glad it is.

  • Track Attack Shout-Out #1— Tuesday's Elementary Track Attack couldn’t have happened without Chelsea Baber, Lynnette Noble, James Wilhite, Sonya Gates, Lisa Lancaster, Rachel Brackins, Zac Stewart, Blake McNair, Jordan Watson, Richard Burton, Andy Stewart, and Chad Tappe. I love having all of our elementary students here on campus, and they love being here even more!
  • Track Attack Shout #2— Both days of Track Attack went very smoothly. Wednesday’s dodgeball tournament was really fun (except for our team losing), and I loved seeing so many teachers involved and having fun with our students. It’s important they see us in a different light, and the dodgeball tournament certainly provides that opportunity. A big thanks to everyone who helped serve food, monitor students, and participate in the dodgeball chaos.
  • Yesterday, Tamara Hodges and Stuart Cash took our 6th grade class officers to the Stew Pot to serve food and distribute the socks we collected for our Socktoberfest Mustang Mission. Our students did a great job and the socks were much appreciated.
