Weekly Memo (November 18-22)

Learning Through Experiences

We’ve had some really good learning experiences the past week. Our kids did an outstanding job performing at the Veterans Day programs both at PV and at the secondary campus. Although I’ve heard it countless times, it never gets old hearing the 5th graders sing the armed forces medley. It’s quite an experience— both for me and for the students— to sing and recognize each branch and then see the men and women they know stand up for each branch. What a great experience for our students, and it’s one they won’t ever forget!

In addition to last Monday’s performances, take a look at the video below to get a glimpse of us learning about decomposers and nature’s recycling system. Today, we created our redworm habitats, and we’ll observe them periodically until Christmas break. This is going to be a fun lab, and just like the experience of singing on Veterans Day, it’ll be one they remember.

I look forward to hearing about all the learning experiences that happen over Thanksgiving break. Have fun!

Resource of the Week

This is a great book to read around the holidays because spending time at family gatherings can cause anxiety or frustration for some people. Boundaries helps put things in perspective and provides a framework for handling situations when people we love may overstep their boundaries.
