Weekly Memo (January 20-24)
Martin Luther King Jr.
As we are learning about Joshua and Caleb leading the people of Israel after the death of Moses, we spent time discussing leadership and identifying key characteristics of godly leaders. Hearing what our students considered to be godly leadership characteristics was inspiring, and several of them mentioned their parents and grandparents (and even other students in class) as examples of godly leaders.
In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we also spent time learning about his life and the way he served as a key leader of the Civil Rights Movement in our country. Martin Luther King Jr. was a great leader, and he certainly exemplified many of the godly leadership qualities mentioned in our class discussion.
In the hall outside of our classroom, we’ve displayed a mural our class worked on to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and around it are papers students wrote describing the positive leadership attributes of Dr. King.
I’m proud of the thoughts our students shared, and I’m thankful to be in a learning environment where we can celebrate and recognize godly leadership qualities. I can’t wait for students to return tomorrow to see and be proud of their work that is posted.
What We’re Learning This Week (if all goes as planned)
I’ll mark each thing we get finished, and you can check back each day to see what we were able to get accomplished (and what we didn’t quite make it to).

Resource of the Week
I’m pretty impressed with this parental control app for a child’s device. If you have another suggestion, I’d love for you to share it with me! Ultimately, no matter what control app you prefer, it’s critical you use one and stay on top of your child’s online activity. As a parent once shared with me, "Be all up in your kids’ business! They’re kids."
