Daily Schedule/Routine

  1. The schedule below is subject to change at the teacher’s discretion.
  2. Students may bring a healthy snack to eat each day. Fruit break will be around 10:00 each day. Students may bring a water bottle. Water is the only beverage permitted inside the classroom.

Safety Patrol Rotation

Safety patrol is 5th grade’s opportunity to serve our younger students and work in a leadership role. Students will be on duty until 3:10. Students not picked up at 3:10 will go to After-School Care.

Students are not required to assist with Safety Patrol during morning drop-off. Students who are on campus in the morning may be asked to help.

Classroom Rules & Expectations
(This will be posted the first week of school after discussing with students.)

Class Work
  • Students will be expected to work on class work during class time. Work not completed during the school day should be completed that night as homework.
  • Homework, when assigned, should be completed by the student. Having a parent work with and help the student is encouraged; having a parent do the work for the student is not encouraged.
  • Late work will not be assigned full credit.
  • If a student is absent, the school handbook states that the student has one day for every day missed to complete the work. Work turned in after that time will be considered late.

Conduct Grade
Our goal is to help students cultivate good habits that will be a blessing to their lives. We believe that learning personal responsibility and accountability will prepare your child to be successful for years to come. The conduct book is used as a tool to help us record and calculate a conduct grade for the week in the classroom. Students sign the conduct book for the following reasons:
  • Not following classroom rules and/or procedures
  • Not following school policies

The conduct grade is calculated in the following way:
  • Each student will start the week with 100 points in Conduct.
  • 1st Signing— 6 points deducted
  • 2nd Signing— Additional 6 points deducted (12 total)
  • 3rd Signing and beyond— 10 points deduced for each (22+ total)

Curriculum Overview

Bible: Students will work through a chronological survey of the major Old Testament events. Through discussion, writing, and study, we hope to grow in our knowledge of God.

Math: Saxon Math divides each lesson into small, easy-to-grasp concepts. A new increment is presented each day and students work only a few problems involving the new material. The remaining work is practicing previously-taught concepts. We hope for our students to increase in their knowledge of mathematics and develop problem-solving skills.

Social Studies: The Social Studies curriculum, Studies Weekly, will guide students to recognize God as the creator of the universe, as active in history, and as the source of its ultimate direction. Students will study exploration of the New World and continue through the 1880s.

Science: Using a hands-on approach, students will explore concepts of Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. The curriculum used will be FOSS Next Generation as well as MacMillan McGraw-Hill. Students will required to enter the Science Fair in the spring.

Reading/Writing: Through the use of the Houghton/Mifflin/Harcourt’s Journeys curriculum, class novel studies, and supplemental texts, students will be inspired to develop listening, speaking, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills that will serve them throughout life.

Spelling: Everyday Spelling is used to sharpen students’ spelling skills. Spelling lists are given at the beginning of each week. Spelling tests will be given on Fridays.

English/Grammar: Using the Voyages curriculum, students will refine their writing skills to become more effective communicators.
